Andrew Boor ’18, a Politics major, is the 2018-2019 Fellow to Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China. Andrew attended the CET Beijing Intensive Language program in his junior year, during which he achieved high-level fluency, and fully immersed himself in Beijing. He also was a member of a Winter Term 2015 group trip to China to study environmental issues. Back at Oberlin, Andrew serves as an English tutor for Chinese students in the Elyria School District while also participating in the senior Honors program in the Politics department. In particular, Andrew is interested in examining questions of how colonialism and nationalism have inhibited solidarity from developing between queer communities. During his tenure as a Shansi Fellow, he looks forward to “the opportunity to continue to pursue the study of literary works that push to normalize conversations of sexuality and identity through my language studies at Beijing Normal University.”
