Announcing the 2019 Shansi Prize Winner

The winner of the 2018 Shansi Prize is Milin Zhou for her capstone paper “Returns on Chinese 20th Century Art 2008-2017.” Milin’s paper examines the role Chinese art plays in the global art market. By integrating her interest in art history with her training in economics, Milin’s work provides new insight to an under-researched topic. In her submission, she shared, “While a lot of studies have been conducted on the investment of Western paintings, research on the returns of Asian art is relatively scarce. Visiting Scholar Spotlight: Arismawan

Since arriving in Oberlin in late January, 2019, “Aris” Arismawan has been busy. Visiting from Syiah Kuala University, he is impressed by the sheer number of posters he sees around Oberlin’s campus, and is excited by the number of course offerings available. While he lectures on Engineering and Industrial Management at SKU, he’s further explored his academic and personal interests here in Oberlin. Taking classes in Entrepreneurship, Comparative American Studies, Arabic, Economics, and a Korean ExCo, Aris has been fully immersed in the Liberal Arts.
