Professor Margo Machida to give lecture: "Transnational Mobilities and Global Convergences in Asian American Art"
March 27, 2018
Professor Margo Machida will be giving a lecture titled “Transnational Mobilities and Global Convergences in Asian American Art” on Tuesday, March 27th at 4:45pm in Art Classroom I (Allen Memorial Art Building). Professor Machida is a scholar, independent curator, and cultural critic specializing in Asian American art and visual culture. She wrote on Pipo's work in her book Unsettled Visions: Contemporary Asian American Artists and the Social Imaginary (Duke University Press, 2009), which received the Cultural Studies Book Award from the Association for Asian American Studies (his photograph is actually on the cover of her book!).
In her talk, Professor Machida will address the turn toward transnationalism in Asian American art during the pivotal decades of the 1970s-1990s, and its impact on the reception, presentation, and positioning of Asian American art and artists. Following her lecture, Pipo will join Professor Machida for a conversation on his artistic development and expanding engagement with Vietnam.
We look forward to seeing you at Professor Machida's talk!
