Professor Simon Avenell to give lecture: “Environment as Method: Postwar Japanese Activism and East

We're pleased to share an invitation to a talk being given by Dr. Simon Avenell, Professor of History, Australia National University, entitled “Environment as Method: Postwar Japanese Activism and East Asia”. It will take place TODAY, Thursday March 29, 2018 at 4:30 pm in the AJLC's Hallock Auditorium. A short description is provided below:

"Spanning the era of Japanese industrial pollution in the 1960s and the more recent rise of movements addressing global environmental problems, Avenell’s work explores how Japanese activists influenced approaches to environmentalism and industrial pollution in the Asia-Pacific region, North America, and Europe, as well as landmark United Nations conferences. Avenell’s publications include Making Japanese Citizens: Civil Society and the Mythology of the Shimin in Postwar Japan (University of California Press, 2010), and Transnational Japan in the Global Environmental Movement (University of Hawaii Press, 2017)."

This event is sponsored by Luce Initiative on Asian Studies and the Environment (LIASE), East Asian Studies, History, and Environmental Studies.
