Visiting Scholars are faculty or staff chosen competitively from the Shansi partner institutions in Asia who spend up to a semester at Oberlin College to enhance their professional and scholarly development. They observe undergraduate teaching, familiarize themselves with the library and its information retrieval system, and pursue their areas of research. On their return to Asia they are expected to share experiences with the home institution and communicate with and support the Shansi Fellows assigned there. In addition to the regular Visiting Scholars who are connected to Shansi’s partner institutions, Shansi also hosts research scholars, visiting instructors, and artists from Asia who come to Oberlin to enrich the academic environment on campus. Visiting Scholar opportunities are only available through invitations from Shansi staff or Oberlin faculty.
