Alessandra Ferrer majored in East Asian Studies with a concentration in Chinese Studies and a minor in Politics.  A recipient of a John F. Oberlin Scholarship, Alessandra has strong French and Chinese language skills. She was on the CET Intensive Language Program in Beijing from January to June, 2012, and she had extensive experience as a tutor and teacher. Alessandra served as a swim instructor and lifeguard, and as the treasurer of the Oberlin Chapter of Active Minds, a group that organizes educational activities to promote mental health awareness. In Summer 2012, she worked with the San Antonio Education Partnership and helped first generation low-income high school graduates with their transition to college. After her year as the Fellow at Beijing Normal University, Alessandra spent two more years working in Beijing, learning more about Chinese culture and language.
