Kim Faber

Language Pedagogy Trainer and Mentor

Kim Faber joined the Shansi team in January 2000. At Shansi, she's responsible for training prospective Shansi fellows in second-language acquisition pedagogy as they prepare to work as Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages at home and abroad (TESOL/TEFL).

A pioneering language pedagogy specialist, Kim has over twenty years of experience training undergraduates to become effective and creative language teachers. At Oberlin College, where she has taught beginning Spanish, language pedagogy, linguistics, and ESOL since 1999, Kim founded Spanish in the Elementary Schools or "SITES" (www.oberlinSITES.org), a program through which Oberlin undergraduates have been able to provide the local school district with a world language program at the PreK-5 levels, allowing it to be certified as an International Baccalaureate district. SITES has operated without interruption since 2005 and is one of Oberlin’s longest-standing and most effective community partnership programs. Its hundreds of alumni have gone on to win prestigious fellowships and careers in education and related fields.

Kim holds Master’s degrees in Spanish Linguistics and Applied Linguistics/TESOL from the University of California at Davis and a B.A. from the University of California at Riverside. She's lived and worked in Spain, Mexico, and the Netherlands.
