Announcing the 2021 Fellows

We are excited to announce the eight new 2021 Shansi Fellows who will be working with our partner organizations in China, India, Indonesia and Japan.

Two of the new Fellows will be going to China. Jess Wilber ‘21, a double-major in Environmental Studies and East Asian Studies with a double minor in Politics and History and a concentration in International Affairs, as well as Elaine Wu '21, a double major in Sociology and East Asian Studies, will teach English at Shanxi Agricultural University.

We have three new Indonesia Fellows. Samantha Perez ‘21, a Sociology and Latin American Studies double major, will be teaching at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta. Philosophy major Corrie Purcell ‘21 and co-Fellow Luci Ostheimer ‘21, who is a Cinema Studies major with minors in East Asian Studies and Religion, will teach at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh.

In Japan, triple major in East Asian Studies, Psychology, and Art History Leina Fieleke ‘21 and co-Fellow Jasmine Mitchell ‘21 who is majoring in East Asian Studies with a politics minor and international studies concentration, will join the English Language teaching faculty at JF Oberlin University in Machida.

Reet Goraya ‘21, a Biology major on the pre-med track, will join our inaugural Fellow at Keystone Foundation in the Nilgiri Biosphere of South India.
