Introducing the 2025 Shansi Fellow to Japan

We are excited to introduce Yuhki Ueda, our newest Shansi Fellow to Japan. Yuhki will be joining the staff of the Office of International Programs at J.F. Oberlin University Machida, Tokyo prefecture, Japan. She will also serve as a tutor and program administrator for the English Language Program, the J.F. Oberlin Junior and Senior High Schools, and other affiliated departments. You can read her bio below. 

Yuhki Ueda ‘24 is a double-degree student who majored in Psychology and Piano Performance. At Oberlin, Yuhki was an active member of the Japanese Student Association (JSA), where she was a part of the effort to revive the student organization in Fall 2021 after its hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She served as both a Secretary and a Co-chair for JSA and worked to cultivate a space for Japanese and Japanese American members to explore their cultures and identities on campus. Furthermore, she created opportunities for the JSA to share Japanese culture with the larger Oberlin community. Yuhki also pursued her passion for psychology research through her research assistant role in the Asian American Identity and Mental Health Lab in Oberlin’s Psychology department. Additionally, she taught secondary private piano lessons and was a student blogger for Oberlin Blogs. As a Shansi Fellow, Yuhki hopes to build cross-cultural bridges, diversify her linguistic abilities, expand her teaching and mentorship skills, and deepen her connection with her cultural heritage.
