Shansi Snapshot: July 2026

As we navigate an exceptionally hot summer in Oberlin, the Shansi team continues to reflect on the many seasons of our work. Our Visiting Scholars from India and Indonesia often relish their first views of autumn foliage or flowers budding after long winters. Our Fellows experience seasons too, from chilly winters in Taigu to the monsoons in South and Southeast Asia.

For this snapshot, we’re sharing two videos that celebrate different seasons of Shansi. The first is a video that shows sounds and visions of Christmastime in Madurai, India, with our partners at Lady Doak College and The American College.

The second video is filmed and produced by Sorah Guthrie ‘25, a Fellow at Shanxi Agricultural University, who had the opportunity to harvest different varieties of strawberries at the campus’s experimental greenhouse.
