Tiffany Yuen (she/her) ’23 is a Sociology and Environmental Studies major from San Francisco, California. At Oberlin, she was a co-director of the Sexual Information Center, providing students with essential health resources, trauma-informed peer support, and community education, while empowering them to make informed decisions regarding their sexual health. She was also a Sociology research assistant studying the historical evolution of Cleveland's Chinatown-turned-AsiaTown, analyzing Asian American community-building and placemaking, and exploring the impact of demographic changes and urban policies. She explored her interest in community-based learning during her semester abroad in Thailand, where she engaged with local communities through climate change education and sustainability work. Through her work as a Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct (PRSM) trainer and her internships at Greenaction and Tight Lipped, she has seen the impact of community education and the importance of creating inclusive, accessible educational resources that are responsive to the needs of diverse communities. She is excited to continue her interest in teaching, climate justice, and participate in meaningful cross-cultural exchange as a Shansi Fellow.
